I just graduated high school about a month ago. I was the first chair
trumpet player in my school jazz, symphonic, and marching bands,
county, district, state, you name it. (And I'm a female... :D) But....
I played on a jazz concert the 6th of June, and since then I have
picked up my trumpet once just to see how it felt. I have been so busy
with my job and getting ready for college, and have gotten involved in
other things besides music. I was planning to be in the marching band
at my college, but now I'm not so sure that I shouldn't just give up.
My chops are horrible, my tone is horrible, and I wouldn't know how to
begin to fix it even if I had the motivation. I do have a passion for
music, and I know I have some talent with the trumpet, I've just been
enjoying a life that isn't crammed full of practice, rehearsal,
performance, practice, rehearsal, well you know the drill.
So, what do you think? Should I just give up trumpet and follow my
other passions? Or, should I try to make a comeback, and if so, how
should I go about doing that?
Thanks so much for any advice here, please do not answer unless you
have musical experience and can offer helpful advice. Thanks!
